We planned to get two kittens and 3/4 of the litter were solid black, so it was inescapable. Only later did I learn that black cats have a much lower adoption rate and are often euthanized. After these two pass on, the plan is to especially look at black kittehs when adopting again, give them some chance.
Lexy is a handful but also very entertaining. She's vocal and makes a wide range of different sounds, even mimicking the tones we use to convey different emotions in order to persuade us. She doesn't want anything to do with a human who is sick with something contagious but she knows when it's depression instead and insists on kitty snuggle time medicine. I think the Bio-Mom was put off by a black cat initially but after knowing Lexy for a while, she commented that it was a shame people are averse to them.
When it doesn't slip our shaky memory, we give Lex a special treat on Halloween because it's Black Kitty Day. And also give one to her sister, Pooka (who is black and white like a cow with a Batman mask), because it's only fair.

Aww, that is sweet. Maybe I'll give Ophelia a special treat this Halloween. It will make up for how much she hates the witch hat...

LOL! I don't think a witch hat would stay on Lexy for five seconds. Kitty dressup amuses me so much, though...I love to see pictures from people with more laid-back pets.
