I brainstorm by going "oh but what if -- no, what if instead -- oh, but --" until I have twenty options and no hope of ever being able to decide which to use, and thus end up writing nothing. :/

A few months ago I went to make a DW post using my browser, and found I had a saved draft (I usually use a client to post). The saved draft was

fetch five free-tuned

and I just stared at the screen for a bit, because I had no memory of writing that, or what I might have meant it to become.

Brainstorming

I generally brainstorm by lightning strike. That is, I wait for inspiration. It is a terrible way to do it and I need to develop the discipline and focus to sit down and brainstorm. Lack of ideas is easily the #1 reason why I don't have anything completed.

omg me too. worst plan ever. I also like to write by lightning strike. if it isn't done in about ten minutes, I get bored and wander off.

(focus is even more shot today, what with being stoned on migraine meds for nearly 8 hours now)

I have a whole bunch of "opening scenes." They're the spawn of the lightning strikes. I don't think I could ever write stories for them and that is really depressing.

Ouch! I'm sorry to hear that! At least the meds are helping with the migraines, I hope.

yes. me too. actually I have two decently-long bits of fanfiction that are waiting for some more plot and then an ending, but I have no idea. I just keep waaaaaaiting for them to write themSELVES but it never happens.

well, I'm high enough that i don't care that my head is exploding etc? I'm also amusing the hell out of myself. i don't usually get stoned stupid but.

I have 2 stories that are almost 3000 words. I'm really good at description but bad at getting a plot together. Of course, that's mostly practice. I basically just need to write more.


Well, that's good, I guess. Not caring about the migraine is certainly better than feeling it full force. :)

maybe we need a writing thing! a jewels thing. (feel free to ignore this. it's more a note-to-self since i can't find the right word.)

TRUE. however, I also can't do any of the work I need to do for classes tomorrow homg. worst. (it was okay to go to my one class today stoned. i have done it before. the prof just makes fun of me. she's cool though. and it's poetry lol)

for some of us! then again half the poems today were about pot and the other half sex. so.

I'm not surprised. In the lit club I was in during high school, the poetry was either about violence or prostitutes. I have no idea why.

I'm terrible at this because I never really write anything fiction-related unless I have a deadline, or someone waiting for it. I have ideas that float around, tagged with "write this down later". XD
