hello folks! forgive the lateness of this TnT.

reminders: this week's topic.

I'm a pace writer. Well, I try to keep writing regularly, exercise my creative muscles (self-discipline!). A friend of mine doesn't work this way. Inspiration has to strike him. Sometimes I find myself giving advice to "inspiration" writers about pacing themselves to produce more work, and sometimes I find myself hanging around waiting for inspiration on what to write, but mostly, I try to be regular. Habits help me.

So, how do you work? Daily word count/pacing? Burst of inspiration? Or both? (bonus question! has anyone actually been able to keep to daily wordcount outside of nano?)

For me, I work like this: I get inspiration quite often, but it tends to be disjointed or incoherent. But when I have the urge to work, I will sit down and write longhand for maybe a couple of hours, transfer it to my word processor, and edit that snippet. From there, I can work on expanding the text I already have. It’s rather efficient, except for the fact that I can go for weeks without the initial lines that set me off on the rest of the story. Case in point, I wrote something like 496 words of steampunk yesterday, but it’s 496 more than 0 and now I can go ahead to realise the rest of that plotbunny. :)

Strangely, I find writing longhand is much less intimidating than a blank Word document--I'm not sure why, though...

Less pressure, perhaps? Or the comforting sight of your own handwriting? hm.
